Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) has started a filibuster against a debt extension to the White House.

The junior senator from Kentucky took the Senate floor at around 2:45pm EST to blast the new budget deal.

Paul said he’ll try to delay the debt extension as long as he can to expose its flaws.

“This is the No. 1 threat to us: we’re accumulating debt at $1 million every minute,” he said. “Someone’s got to stand up and do something about it.”

“I will continue this filibuster as long as there are enough votes here to allow it to continue.”

The deal brokered by the Obama administration and congressional leaders from both parties allows the White House to borrow as much money as it wantsuntil March 17 and also boosts spending in other areas.

“It is horrible, it’s hard for me not to use profanity describing it,” Paul told an audience at the University of Colorado’s Denver campus.

His fellow presidential candidates Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) also oppose the debt deal.

The deal is an agreement between former House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and the White House.

Radio host Rush Limbaugh said that with the debt extension, the Republican leadership was practically paving the way for Hillary Clinton to take the White House in 2016.

“[Because of the debt deal] the Republican Party cannot campaign by running around blaming the Democrats for destroying budget, for overspending, for threatening the very fabric economically of the country,” he said Oct. 28. “They can’t do it.”

“This is the Republican budget deal that Barack Obama cannot wait to sign.”
